This tentative agreement is outstanding and historic. We took our power back and showed the nursing home owners who we really are. And we did all of this without having to strike!
It was a difficult fight, but we knew our worth. We committed to do whatever it would take to win a contract that acknowledged our value. We stood strong in our demand to maintain our benefits and job security, and that all of our 1199 nursing home family must be covered by our Funds.
We demanded that the for-profit nursing home owners recognize the risks we are still taking since the worst pandemic in recent history raged through New York and that they must pay us for those sacrifices. We refused to play games and we showed them the might of 1199!
Take a moment and celebrate what we have accomplished. Our actions and mobilizations meant that the for-profit nursing home owners had no choice other than to show us the respect that we deserve.
